2023 Barclay Cup Heads to the West Coast: City of Stirling to Host National Junior Girls’ Baseball Tournament

Baseball WA and Carine Cats Baseball Club are excited to bring the second annual Barclay Cup to Australia’s West Coast, made possible through support from the City of Stirling.

The junior girls’ tournament will run from 1-7 October at Carine Regional Open Space, with eight teams from around the country taking part in an action-packed week of baseball for young girls aged 13-16.

Local teams West Coast Gold and Blue Rays will compete for tournament glory, playing alongside teams from New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, and Victoria.

The West Coast Gold Rays took out the first-ever Barclay Cup held on the Gold Coast in 2022, and will be looking to go back-to-back, this time on home turf.

“After a fantastic inaugural tournament last year, we are so excited to have the 2023 Barclay Cup on the West Coast,” Baseball WA CEO Lachlan Dale said.

“Our West Coast Rays can’t wait to make amazing memories playing against girls from across the country, and we are thankful to City of Stirling for all the support in bringing this national event to the home of the Carine Cats Baseball Club.”

City of Stirling CEO Stuart Jardine PSM said the City was excited to support the national tournament through its sponsorship program and to see national-level baseball come to Stirling.

“The 2023 Barclay Cup will increase visitation to the area, with the majority of the expected 500 competitors and supporters travelling from interstate,” Mr Jardine said. “The event will also help highlight the importance of participation in sport.

“It is great to see that female participation in sport is on the increase. Top level tournaments like the Barclay Cup will continue to inspire more girls to get involved and play sport.”

The Barclay Cup was named in honour of talented West Australian sportswoman Jacinda Barclay, who passed away in 2020. Her love of the game and infectious team spirit live on in the next generation of female baseballers.
